About the Lab

What this session is, and what it’s for.

This interactive 90-minute learning lab explores how social impact organizations can move from data collection to real-world action using AI. Grounded in Safecity’s work on sexual and gender-based violence, the session demonstrates how citizen-generated data can be translated into targeted interventions that influence behavior, policy, and service delivery.

Participants will engage with real-world datasets and use AI tools to co-create campaign strategies, refine messaging, and identify pathways for implementation. The session will also examine ethical considerations, including bias, representation, and safeguarding.

By combining civic tech, AI, and community insight, the lab offers practical approaches to improving efficiency while ensuring that technology remains inclusive, accountable, and rooted in lived experience.

What You’ll Leave With

Practical approaches for the work that actually matters.

01

Citizen data translated into action.

See how Safecity’s tens of thousands of citizen reports on sexual and gender-based violence become targeted interventions that shift behavior, policy, and service delivery, and what that translation actually takes.

02

Campaign strategy, co-created with AI.

Work with real-world datasets and AI tools to refine messaging, sharpen targeting, and identify concrete pathways for implementation. Leave with methods, not just a deck.

03

A clear-eyed read on the ethics.

Examine bias, representation, and safeguarding head-on. Get practical rules of thumb for keeping AI inclusive, accountable, and rooted in lived experience, not just efficient.

How the Session Works

Four movements, one working session.

Demonstrate
Citizen data, applied AI, campaign design. Live demonstrations grounded in Safecity’s real dataset. The journey from report to intervention, shown end-to-end.
Critique
AI output vs. lived experience. Small groups interrogate the AI’s work. Is the message relevant and respectful? Who’s the target audience, and who’s missing? What risks around bias, harm, and exclusion need to be named?
Co-create
Refine messaging. Identify pathways. Choose your track. Go deeper on applied AI with Murmur AI, or on campaign design and communication with Integrated Fundraising.
Commit
One next move for your own work. Group reflections, shared learnings, and the practical question: what do you do with this on Wednesday morning?
Hosted By

Three organizations. One shared question.
What can applied AI do for mission-driven work?

Citizen data. Applied AI. Real-world action.

Social impact work has always been rooted in lived experience. Applied AI, when it’s honest, ethical, and accountable, can help the people closest to the work do more of it, faster. Join us on 5 May to see what that looks like in practice.
